Name: Tempo Gold Star Lager

Style: Lager

Country: Israel

ABV: 4.9%

Beer description: Tempo Brewing is is the big brewer of Israel and Goldstar lager is there flagship beer. It’s one of the biggest sellers in Israel.

This is Irael’s staple beer, served everywhere and loved by all. The main reason for this beers wide popularity is due to the fact that, until only a few years ago, there was only two breweries’ that produced beer locally.

Gold Star is served ice cold and pours with a light amber colour with a small amount of head, that dissipates quickly. It has a very simple aroma, malty with a hint of caramel.

The taste is crisp, with mellow malt flavours balanced by a slight bitterness. From first sip to finish this flavour does not change and with an ABV of only 4.9% it makes this beer very sessionable.

All in all it’s a pretty standard lager but well made for Israel and as a macro lager, it’s pretty good and serves a purpose. So while it’s a simple beer, it really highlights why a mass produced lager can be popular. Serve it cold, get refreshed, and don’t think about it too much.
